WHO ARE THE CHURCHES OF CHRIST?
In the United States, there are about 1.5 million members of the Churches of Christ in about 12, 000 local congregations. Because we don’t have any denominational organization or headquarters, and exact count is impossible. Churches of Christ are located in every state and many countries around the world. The heaviest concentration of members in the U.S. is in the souther and western states.
WHEN DO YOU WORSHIP
We follow the commands and examples of the New Testament to assemble together on the first day of each week (Acts 20:7) for worship of God and Bible study.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT WHEN I VISIT A WORSHIP SERVICE?
When people visit a different church, they often wonder if they will be “put on the spot” or asked to participate in ways in which they are uncomfortable. You will not be asked to do anything that might make you uncomfortable.
A typical Sunday morning worship service will usually begin with two songs. Then following the example of the New Testament church, we will partake in the Lord’s Supper. Following communion, we will be lead in prayer by one of our men. We also usually have a scripture reading. Next the minister will preach a practical, Bible-centered, sermon.
At the ed of this sermon, the preacher will “extend the invitation.” You may see someone respond to ask for prayer or to become a Christian. If a person desires to “obey the gospel” (II Thessalonians 1:7-9) he or she will be baptized immediately.
A visitor will always be an honored guest.
